Camping Questions
Camp at the racecourse onsite before, during and after the races.
Onsite camping is included free with your General Entry ticket. Onsite camping is open 3pm Sunday 13 July to 9am Tuesday 22 July 2024.
Sunday Only entry passes don't include camping. To camp onsite a General Entry Pass must be purchased.

There is a permanent block of toilets and showers onsite at the racecourse and we hire an additional block of toilets and showers that we locate on the further side of the camping area.
There is lots of space in the camping areas and when you first turn up just roll in and select your own spot. There is no need to first present your event ticket on arrival. Just go ahead and set up your camping and later come see us at to exchange your ticket for an event armband.
Get your armband during the week before the races at our merchandise shop in the Boulia main street or from Friday at the racecourse in a marquee.
There are no powered sites available at the racecourse. If you need a power connection book a powered site at the Caravan Park.
Yes pets are welcome to camp with you at the racecourse. It's important that pets are restrained when walking around the campgrounds or kept contained within your camping spot. There is an off-leash area provided (no shade or water is provided in the off-leash area). Pets are not permitted inside the event area or near the camel yards.
The racecourse is not a baited area (1080) however there is the risk of baits travelling via birds from neighbouring areas, so please do not let your dog roam while going for a walk.
There is no dump point at the racecourse, but there is one nearby. Find the RV Effluent Dump Site on Diamantina Development Road, on the left hand side on the way out of town towards Mount Isa.
Grey water may be run onto the ground from your campsite, however please be considerate of the people around you.
Campfires are permitted the campgrounds. With thanks to our local supporters roughly cut firewood is left in large piles across the camping area. Typically this firewood is significantly diminished within the first few days, so please take only what you need. If you require firewood it's for sale at the Boulia Roadhouse and at times also the Min Min Store.
There are numerous water taps at the racecourse. Campers may use these taps for re-filling water containers. No hook-ups are available. All water in Boulia is drinkable bore water. There are also taps in the main street of Boulia available for re-filling water containers (find them in the caravan parking area across from the butcher shop).
Generators are welcome in the onsite campgrounds, just be mindful of your camping neighbours please in regards to noise.

Event Questions
If you are camping the first thing to do when you arrive is set up your camping spot at the racecourse grounds. There is no need to present your ticket first, just choose your own camping spot and set up first.
Exchange your ticket for an armband at the Event Information & Merchandise Store at the festival site from Thursday afternoon before the races (open 8.30am to 5pm).
Before the races begins visit the Boulia Camel Races Pop-Up Information & Merchandise Store in the butcher shop in the main street of Boulia (open 8.30am to 5pm from now until Thursday afternoon before the races). From Friday morning the Information & Merchandise Tent will be open at the racecourse.
Yes tickets are available at the event gate from Friday afternoon. EFTPOS is available.
Pets are not permitted inside the fenced event area or anywhere near the camels and racetrack. Pets are permitted only in the campgrounds. There is no pet sitting service available in Boulia.
There are food vendors operating at the races. Many are open from Friday evening, though a few open earlier during the week. Breakfast to dinner is also available at the canteen inside the main shed at the racetrack.
In Boulia there is The Australian Hotel serving meals until 8pm (please book ph: 07 4746 3144) and The Roadhouse which is open until 8.30pm. Both are open 7 days.
You can wear almost anything you prefer to the races! Most people wear jeans and a shirt, some people come dressed up a little fancier in race day attire and others come dressed a little silly in something for a laugh. No-one feels out of place at our trackside!
Yes a courtesy shuttle bus operates at regular intervals between town and the Racecourse from 3pm Friday until late, all day Saturday til late and during the day Sunday. The bus runs on a loop approximately every hour or phone the bus driver Phil on mob: 0427 570 189. BOULIA PICK UP POINTS: Shire Office, Desert Sands Motel, Caravan Park and at the Racecourse (bus stop is just outside the event entry gate).
Questions About Boulia
Average daily temperatures in July are minimum 7 and maximum 23oC. It can get down to freezing overnight so pack your beanies and coats, but often during the daytime it's warm enough to wear a light shirt.

There is only one store in Boulia, the Min Min Store, but it sells practically everything! You can pick up bread, milk and normal grocery lines, plus all sorts of other supplies such as basic auto goods and hardware.

Boulia is serviced by very limited health services. The Private Health Centre is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. Outside these times for general health needs contact ph: 13HEALTH or in emergency situations ph: 000.
There is no vet based in Boulia, however during the races there is a vet onsite. Ph: 0427 080 210
Telstra network mobile phones have coverage in Boulia, however there is no coverage driving between Boulia and the the next towns in any direction. Optus network does not operate in Boulia.
There is no digital tv in Boulia, only satellite tv.
